Before coming to the Refuge, Scout found herself homeless and was wandering around an apartment complex in Greensboro, NC. With no safe housing or food, she was at risk from predators, cold weather, and starvation. Little Scout was even using the apartment building stairs as a makeshift "roost" to sleep on at night. Luckily, a kind woman who lived there recognized that Scout needed help, contacted our sanctuary, and drove her all the way to us.

This tiny rooster somehow found his way to an urban backyard in Raleigh NC where he was living for several months, sleeping high up in the trees at night. Although he showed an interest in the humans, he was too scared to come very close and would quickly run away when approached.

Stinkbug is one of the Bug Chicks, a group of 10 hens rescued from the Kaporos ritual in New York in 2023. These hens were spared from stressful conditions and brought to the Refuge for a new start.
