Vegan Cake Class: Learn how to make a Momofuku cake!

Momofuku cakes are widely admired for their flavor complexity, creative ingredients, and fun, playful aesthetic. Join cooking instructor, Monika, in learning how to make a vegan version of this viral sensation, and enjoy a slice at the conclusion of the class! This class will be an interactive demonstration held at the Pacifica Community Kitchen in Carrboro, NC.

A Momofuku cake is a unique style of layer cake popularized by Milk Bar, a dessert shop founded by Christina Tosi under the Momofuku restaurant group. These cakes are known for their distinctive flavor combinations, textures, and signature "naked" appearance—meaning they have no outer layer of frosting, so the colorful layers and fillings are fully visible. Some iconic flavors include Birthday Cake (reminiscent of a funfetti cake), Crack Pie Cake (now called Milk Bar Pie, with a buttery, oat-cookie base and caramelized filling), and Chocolate Malt Cake.

Cooking Instructor Bio: Meet Monika Soria Caruso! With years of experience as an avid home baker, Monika brings a passion for the art and science of baking into every creation. From delicate pastries to rustic breads, she enjoys taking on baking challenges and perfecting each recipe. In this class, Monika is excited to share her techniques, tips, and love for the craft, helping others explore the joy and creativity of baking at home. Monika also serves on the sanctuary's board of directors where she dedicates her time helping our organization thrive and grow.
