Education Director
We are seeking a full time Education Director to join our dedicated team of passionate animal lovers! Our ideal candidate would be committed to becoming a longterm member of our team, and would be excited to work alongside other staff members to help our organization continue to grow.
Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is a sanctuary for farmed animals who are rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment. Located in Pittsboro North Carolina, the Refuge is home to over 100 cows, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese who are provided with high quality healthcare, daily enrichment, and animal-centered homes. The Refuge offers tours, vegan cooking classes, and other educational programs designed to inspire a compassionate vegan lifestyle.
The Refuge is located about 20 minutes from Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Saxapahaw and about 45 minutes from Raleigh, Durham and Greensboro. Job responsibilities, qualifications and specifics are listed below.
Responsibilities
Organizing and leading educational events throughout the year including but not limited to: Monthly Tour & Explores, Vegan Cooking Classes, Film Screenings, Vegan Food Sampling Events, and School Field Trips
Organizing and leading the summer Camp Compassion Program
Developing and implementing an Education & Outreach Program targeted at local colleges and universities
Developing additional Education & Outreach Programs in collaboration with the Executive Director
Recruiting, training, and appreciating education-related volunteers such as tour guides, camp counselors, and others
Taking photographs and videos of animal residents and events
Serving as the main contact for visitors staying in our Yurt
Serving as the main contact for rentals of our Education Pavilion
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Commitment to the mission of the Refuge
Knowledge of and passion for animal rights issues and veganism is strongly preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact constructively with volunteers, staff, and the general public
Experience working with volunteers is required
Resourcefulness and ability to work independently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking
Ability to follow detailed instructions and meet time-sensitive demands
Ability to learn and process new information quickly
Strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task efficiently and meet deadlines
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive, and social media platforms
Experience with SquareSpace and MailChimp is preferred
Schedule flexibility to meet onsite program requirements
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Job Specifics
Full time permanent position at 40 hours per week
Starting wage is $25 per hour
Regular schedule includes many weekend days to accommodate events
