Robby came to live at the Refuge in 2014 and was the very first rescued resident.  Before coming to the Refuge he had been purchased to be a backyard hen but ended up being a male instead of a female.  One compassionate member of his family reached out to the Refuge and saved him from being slaughtered for a meal. Robby lived for years at the Refuge with his true love Esmeralda the hen.  When Robby and Esmeralda first met, he built her close to ten nests in the straw within an hour out of his excitement.  When Esmeralda passed away from heart failure in 2017 Robby went into a deep depression and did not eat for almost two weeks.  He now lives with a flock of friendly hens and is happy and healthy.
