The Hen House Campaign
In 2013 with the help of our community, Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge held two fundraisers and successfully raised the capital to construct our very first barn for rescued animals. The Hen House now serves as a home for rescued chickens and turkeys coming from lives of abuse, neglect and abandonment.
Indiegogo Fundraiser: July-September 2013
The fundraising began with an online fundraiser through the crowd-funding website Indiegogo. Our online fundraising goal of $3,120 was quickly surpassed and we ended up raising over $5,000 towards the Hen House Campaign! You can view the our archived Indiegogo fundraising pagehereand view the video we created for it on youtubehere.
The Hen House Fundraiser at Mediterranean Deli: October 19, 2013
Just a month later, we held a fundraising event in the banquet room of Mediterranean Deli located in Chapel Hill, NC. Over 50 guests attended the event which included an all vegan buffet, a fabulous silent auction, and presentations by guest speaker Gary Loewenthal and Refuge founder Lenore Braford. With the help of an anonymous matching gift of $5,000, we raised the remaining funds needed to begin the process of building The Hen House.
Building The Refuge Hen House
In mid-December of 2013 we began the construction process and held volunteer build days each weekend. Over 40 people contributed to the building process and we completed the barn and surrounding fencing in the summer of 2014. We can’t thank our build day volunteers enough for making this possible!
Residents of the Hen House
Our first rescued animal Robby the Rooster (seen below, top center photo) came to live at the Refuge in the summer of 2014. We are able to continue rescuing and caring for chickens & turkeys in need thanks to the support of many volunteers and donors.
