Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is pleased to announce its first annual Artist in Residency program. For the next two months, a visual artist whose work invites compassion toward farm animals will visit us weekly to sketch or photograph. Their final piece will be auctioned off at our annual benefit.

Our 2017 artist is painter Barbara Shumannfang. Barbara looks forward to taking in the beauty of the Refuge and getting to know the residents and their stories. She is interested in cultivating compassion toward all beings, and in understanding how oppression of others relates to our choices with non-human animals. She is excited for the opportunity to delve into these questions, while hopefully keeping the sheep from eating her pencil eraser.
