Apollo and three of his friends were found wandering homeless in rural North Carolina. Apollo is a heritage breed turkey who probably escaped from a small farm where he was being raised for meat. After arriving at the Refuge, he began to display his dominance and had to be separated from his male friends Tony, Archer, and Bruno. During this time, he cried for his friends and was soothed by having a mirror placed in his living area. He now lives with a friendly flock of chickens. Apollo is named after one of our Board member’s beloved dogs.
